Designed using thrifted, repurposed and rental items our vision is a dream in french blue, cranberry, peachy pink and pops of marigold orange. Be inspired to create your own environmentally conscious wedding.
Earth Day gives us an opportunity to shift the focus from designer dresses for less to eco options for your entire day. Your attire isn't the only piece of the planning that can be executed more ethically. Every day objects can be reimagined, items that may seem disposable bring dimension and rentals work seamlessly with thrifted pieces.
Say French Industrial Greenhouse styled shoot and that may seem like one too many themes on the Pinterest board. But the contrast between the liquid black metal, soft but structured velvet couches, ornate lamps, antique bed springs, leather and lush greenery came together for a feeling that is both urban and romantic. The Alter
A vintage bed spring draped with industrial lights surrounded by a backdrop of metal milk cans and lush plants is the perfect stage for a ceremony. I love the contrast of the crisp white baby's breath and the leather chair. All of these items were rented or could be sourced on a buy and sell. The vintage pieces are the perfect eco-friendly option for decor.
The Table
A decadent design of toile dinner plates, embellished lamps and etched glass offer elaborate details that are a literal feast for the eyes. A broken vintage metal teapot brings charm while the mix of metals maintains the raw and industrial feeling. A platter of fruit fit for a queen and angels holding baby buds call to Versaille from a prairie greenhouse. Ooh la la! And don't discount a busted teapot or thrifted lamp. These second hand finds are unexpected and lavish additions. Have I mentioned the place card holders are repurposed door hinges?
The Attire
A deep blue suit and toile patterned dress shirt make this groom effortless and modern while the bride is covered in decadent, romantic lace. A secondhand Stella York is never less than expected when she displays the charm of scalloped straps with the sensuality of a low back. Rose gold estate jewelry and french waves are the finishing touches on this ethical bride. Eco-friendly option for men? You can always rent a suit, that is an obvious choice. But something in this shade would be suitable for the office, opera or formal occasion and an investment in something you will wear again and again is equally as environmentally friendly.
The Bridal Party
A palette of contrasting colors and styles coupled with french waves and locally made hair pieces strike the perfect balance between the rich fruits and mixed metals. Sweeping spring shades on the eyes and a modern take on the hair vine give these girls a look nouvelle. The gowns are used, the hair pieces handmade and the beauty team committed to caring for the world we live in. Stay for a lavender lemonade, won't you?
The Extras
What could be more industrial than a converted horse trailer painted ink black and hard lined to pour the perfect beverage? Nomad Box Bar provides the perfect combination of sophistication and elegance featuring herbal cocktails and dried fruit garnishes. Supporting local, small business is always an ethical option. Drink outside the box!
We chose a cheese wheel cake displayed on an over-sized spool and adorned with fresh fruit from local chefs and cheese makers Rachel and Dustin from Loaf & Honey. Our objective in styling these shoots is to ensure we celebrate the values and talents of our small business community. A cheese wheel cake not only compliments our French theme, but is a great alternative to the traditional dessert. Its provincial, delectable and can be shared with your guests, taken home for the post-wedding brunch or enjoyed in the weeks to follow.
The Location
There are not many places in Manitoba that feel as lush and alive as a greenhouse. Although snow was still on the ground when we shot this last spring, the sunshine was exactly want we needed to capture the beauty of an Earth Day inspired shoot. The plants and natural lighting are not only earth friendly but provide a vibrant atmosphere for any special occasion. Locations with natural lighting and built in decor are incredibly sustainable choices. Now, I love flowers just as much as the next person, but depending on where they are sourced from they may not be the must environmental option. Start with a local florist who specializes in seasonal blooms and consider limiting or reusing your arrangements throughout the venue (aisle arrangements become reception decor for example). Whether you choose plants, succulents or non-floral options like paper or brooch bouquets there are many options besides the traditional. Like the air plants we used as bridesmaids bouquets! Tres chic!
Inspiration is every where. It's the hardware you find in a drawer, an old bed spring, metallicized flowers and a blend of elements. It is in the spaces that are naturally beautiful and around the tables adorned with antiques. And is in the community, where our most creative and committed artisans hone their craft.
